Historical Romance author Nadine Millard
Q: Tell us a little about why you decided to become an author:
A: Since childhood, I’ve been an obsessive reader and when I was little I wrote poems and short stories constantly. When I had my kids, I gave up working in law and decided to take the plunge for real!
Q: How do you overcome writer’s block?
A: Usually, I’ll go and read a couple of books from a completely different genre. When I enjoy a book, it takes the stress away and reminds me why I wanted to write in the first place and it seems to flow better.
Q: Who has been the biggest influence for you as a writer and why?
A: My sisters 100% they constantly talk ideas etc with me and their excitement fuels me. And I love how proud my kids are when they tell people I’m a writer!
Q: Do you have a favorite author and if so, who?
A: Oh gosh. Way too many to list! But I’m a Jane Austen die hard till I die.
Q: What is a usual writing day like for you?
A: Drop the kidlets at school, come home, schedule some social media stuff and then write until lunch time! After that it’s total chaos until bedtime!
Q: How has your experiences differed from your expectations prior to becoming a published author?
A: It’s a LOT less glamorous. And there’s nowhere near as much Starbucks!
Q: What has been the hardest thing for you to overcome as an author?
A: Time management and organization skills. I’m way too flighty and have to fight not to be distracted!
Q: Do you have any regrets as an author?
A: I regret not writing more and not writing sooner!
Q: What do you enjoy doing when you are not writing?
A: Reading, going out for dinners, book club, travelling. Of course spending time with my family, and with my Pinot Grigio!
Q: If you could go back and give yourself just one piece of advice in regards to writing, what would it be?
A: Write. More. Always. Every day. Something. Anything! Just keep writing.
